Eden's Despicable "3" Birthday Party

I'm THREE!
This year’s theme was a no-brainer for us.  Mr E has always loved Despicable Me 2, and after his minion cupcakes last year, has been asking for a minion birthday party since.

I really don’t know what it is about this time of year, but it feels like his birthday comes from nowhere.  Lacking free weekends and with only a week to go, I had to pull the party together!  My lunch times were spent raiding the dollar and local party shop for anything yellow and blue or could be turned into a minion.  And there wasn’t much sleep in the lead up… yawn… Zzzz.  Whaaat? Oh! Still writing here… Whew!  I sure am glad it’s over… for another whole year.  {Eloise will skip a 6th birthday celebration as we will be at The Happiest Place on Earth instead}

Good v Evil

I found these hats on a Girls’ Day Out at The Rocks Markets.   Unfortunately they didn’t stay on their heads for very long.  Eden’s shirt “Big Trouble in a Little Shirt” was on clearance for $3 {and so the minion personality}

As I said previously, decorating was inexpensive thanks to a good dollar store; $1 for streamers,  $4 for a bag of 25 balloons, and $2.50 for a yellow lantern.  The most expensive item was a minion tablecloth and banner for $9 each.
I found free minion goggle printables to create these minions

BA- NA-NA
(My minion)
I placed a few minion friends (thanks McDonald's) around the house too.

Salsa & Salsa
The menu was inspired by El Macho’s restaurant from the movie.  Luckily Mr E’s favourite dinners are also Taco Tuesday/ Thursday (depending on which day we have it but not both.  That’s overkill).  Mr H was excited to finally have his taco bar at a birthday party.  It was surprisingly easy and tasty too.

We Like to Party
The minions love to play games!  We played Pass the Parcel and had the most awesome piñata ever.

Each layer contained a lollipop and minion goodie
(sticker sheet, paper goggles or party blower)
The grand prize was real minion goggles!

Seriously, how cute is this piñata?
Get it Eden!
They also had some play time in and outdoors.  Unfortunately it was cold, but fortunately the rain held out on us and it only sprinkled lightly.

Cake

He’s not perfect but Mr E knew exactly who he was and that’s all that matters, right?  I spent most of Friday baking the layers and Saturday, my aim was to decorate however I didn’t get to it until about 9:30pm (post- The White Album concert and a few cocktails).  2 hours later and he was done.  And less than 24 hours later, he was devoured!

Make a wish!

Unfortunately there are no photos of us as a family due to Eden deciding "no more photos" and putting his arm over his face.  As soon as the camera was put away "Na-na-na-na!  You couldn't get me!"  Sigh.

You’re One in a Minion!
WHAAT?  The party's over?
Our guests took home a little minion “surprise” (Despicable Me 2 character figurine), a Lipstick Taser (coconut, mango, banana and vanilla- flavoured chapstick), Freeze Ray (water squiter), a minion tattoo and sweets.  Again, inexpensive thanks to a clearance at Toysrus, buying out the $1 bins at Kmart, and of course, chocolate in bulk at Costco.

At the end of the day, we asked Eden if he enjoyed his party.  His reply “it was awesome!”  That means we can call it a success!

Thanks for coming!

Eden is 3!

Yay!  It's Eden's Birthday!

Where has the time gone?  Mr E is 3!  Here's how we celebrated his day:
I made him a very special cake.  Do you want to build a snowman?  Some people are worth melting for!
It's Olaf from Frozen
This was his reaction to seeing his cake in the morning!

Eloise and I joined him for his birthday morning tea at daycare.

Eden is so excited to share his cake with his friends
After a special day at school, he opened his presents: a Darth Vader training set and Lego.  Then, we had a birthday dinner at TGI Friday’s.   The highlight of the night was the waiters singing a birthday song to Eden.  The smile on his face was priceless.  (Click "Eden's Birthday Song" below)

FINALLY, part of our birthday tradition, here are some photos over the past year – Eden is always happy!

#GoTExhibition

#GoTexhibition #Sydney
This isn't really a Wordless Wednesday but I won't tell if you don't! For a limited time only, The Game of Thrones Exhibition is free at MCA Sydney.  I had a day off to spend with Eloise anyway, so we thought we would check it out.  We didn't know it would be a 4 hour line!  It was an event planners nightmare.  Next time, call me!

Miss Eloise was adamant on seeing the Iron Throne and the costumes even though she only knew of Game of Thrones from daddy's cake and the White Walkers from my birthday present.  I asked her several times if she wanted to leave and do something else but she insisted on staying.  She was so patient, considering I had limited snacks and no iPad (or games on my phone other than Plants v. Zombies) to help keep her entertained!
{A BIG thank you to Uncle Ed and Auntie 'Chelle for checking in with us in the queue at the 2.5 hour mark to take MissE to the toilet.}

This was the line prior to opening
We were so far back, our spot wasn't even in the photo frame
3 hours down… at the 1 hour to go mark
4 hours and a few minutes later, we were in like flynn!
Miss Eloise did a happy dance.

Hello Winter (June)

We started June with a long weekend.   Why isn’t every weekend 3 days???

MrE Goes to the Circus
MrE was so excited to attend his little mate’s birthday party at The Circus Factory.  He had so much fun doing circus tricks and even tried the trapeze (it took him an hour and 50 minutes but he did it!)

Australia’s Reptile World
On the Monday, we ventured to Australia’s Reptile World for some wildlife fun and a picnic.  We were lucky with the timing as we had lunch and saw almost everything before the heaven’s opened.  It’s a great little wildlife park and definitely hands-on; our tally: wombat, alligator, Galapagos tortoise, python = check!

MrE Says the Darnedest Things: Wildlife Edition
Getting up close and personal with a baby alligator:
MrE: Is that a baby croc?
Keeper: No, it’s an alligator
MrE: Oh.  The croc is soft
Keeper: It’s an alligator
MrE: Oh.  Can I pat his mouth?  Please?
Me: Umm, NO!
Keeper: Laughing. No, he might bite you.

In Spider World, Mr H thought it was funny to play a trick on the Keeper.  The Keeper is in a glass windowed room and so the public can funnel web spiders (very poisonous) being milked and other spider keeping activities.  The Keeper was busy putting together a tank when MrH started tapping on the glass to get his attention.  Once the Keeper looked up, Mr H frantically pointed behind the Keeper.  The Keeper fell for it hook, line and sinker looking around to see if one had gotten loose.  Haha.  At least The Keeper could take a joke and had a chuckle at himself.

They even had dinosaurs!

MissE Says the Darnedest Things
MissE: Look, Eden!  There are superheroes there!
MrE: Which ones?
MissE: Batman, Supergirl, Catwoman, and The Honk.
Me: What?
MissE: Batman, Catwoman…
Me: No, the green one.  What did you call it?
MissE: The Honk.

Me
I celebrated another year older this month.  I had a ‘birthday-eve’ celebrate at work with the Mortal Sin cake: New York cheesecake, Royal chocolate mousse, topped with a layer of caramel cream.

For my birthday, I was spoiled with goodies – a new iPad mini and 2 GoT POP! Figures – and not so spoiled with a double meltdown too (Eloise was crying because her birthday was too far away and Eden was crying because he wanted my new toys).  For lunch, we tried a new retro café ‘Daisy’s Milkbar’ that was too cool for school.

This month ended with a work conference.  When the day business was done, we had a gala dinner to attend!  I had my hair done for the first time since my wedding and had the opportunity to dress up.  Yay!
