Action packed July

Our July was pretty much full at the start of last month!  It saw more action than the Iron Man 3 movie.

Snow Time!
This was something I wanted to do last year when I saw it, but it was too close to our travels to America (I can’t believe that was last year!).  I am so glad we waited because many were saying how much better it was this year.  Read all about our fun in the snow here.

Happy Anniversary to us!

Mr  H and I celebrated our 8th wedding anniversary.  Nanny came over to look after Miss E and Mr E while we had dinner in the city.  We opted for our fill of Americana and tried the new Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville at Harbourside.

*It was one of our 2013 resolutions to have more date nights and it’s only taken 6 months to plan them!  We had 2 in June, dinner at Trinity Beach and a movie date to see World War Z (we like our zombies).  Here’s to keeping it up!

Disney on Ice: Princesses and Heroes
I bought tickets in March for this… and it’s finally here!  I am not sure who was more excited!  It was a big surprise for Miss E as we are trying to discourage the not-so-fabulous 4 behaviour.  For good behaviour (listening, not arguing with us and not picking fights with her brother) she earned this mommy-daughter date... kind of.  She was also given a new costume for this the occasion (Three cheers for e-Bay!  Do you know how hard it is to find anything Mulan these days?).
The only Mulan we could find... as part of a food stand!

The show was fantastic!  I got a bit excited and took a ton of photos!  See them at a Wordless Wednesday post here.

Disney, I love you but I have one gripe.  The show was called Princesses and Heroes only there were no heroes and even more disappointing, no Mulan.  She IS the ultimate hero; she saved China!

Eden turns 2!

I can’t believe my baby boy is 2.   He still smells “new”!  See his birthday post here and his Dino-mite Dino Dig birthday party here.

He was very excited about his birthday and loved having the attention on him at day care.  Eloise joined him in The Discoverers room for minion cupcakes.
(BTW, I do not send my children to day care in pajamas, its pajama week!  I wish we had that at work!)

A few weeks into being 2 and he is very much “asserting his independence”. This is mostly evident at swim lessons.  He went from being a little fish to as soon as he doesn't want to do something, throwing a massive tantrum.  He’s also been re-named Mr Grumpy.  We hope it’s because he's cutting his molars only.  We want our happy little man back!

The Explorers… almost
With his birthday, he is starting his transition into The Explorers Room at day care and will move completely in a few weeks’ time.  His carers are so sad to see him (the “boss”) go.  They wrote him this beautiful note in his mid-year report.

But he is very much looking forward to his new day care room.  He loves Miss Shelia (the first carers’ name he was able to say) and all the big boy toys for him.
That evening, we had dinner at Outback Steakhouse, by request, and cupcakes (from My Little Cupcake).  Eden loved his presents and was still full of leftover jumping beans the next day.

Another "goodbye"
Sadly we learned at the end of this month, one of Eden’s current carer, Miss Sunita, is returning to Nepal.  He is very attached to her and we are all so sad.  With him in care 4 days a week, she is very much a special part of his life.  She is so lovely and has always cared so wonderfully for both Eden and Eloise; she even passed on one of her fairy tale books to Eloise because she knew how much Eloise loves fairy tales.  She will be greatly missed by us and wish her all the very best.

I wanted to get her something special and this is what I came up with.

The poem is gorgeous and everything that I wanted to say but couldn't find the words to say.  I also wrote a personal note inside with a $50 Visa gift card.

One of the saddest things was this conversation I had with Eden on the Monday after Miss Sunita's last day.
Me: Eden, who did you play with today?  Miss Rianna?
Eden: Yes
Me: Miss KC?
Eden: No.  'Nita home.  No cuddles (frowns).
Me: Who gave you cuddles today?
Eden: Ri-nana.

MissE (and Eden) Says the Darnedest Things
(Despicable Me) Minion Crazy
Firstly, it’s not what they said… but what they did:
Me: It's time to pack-away!  Eden, where do the minions go?

* Note: We really don't go to McDonald's that often, the minions seem to be increasing!  Eden came home with a few minion stow-aways in his backpack.  Hmm...

Then one night, in the middle of dinner and no one was talking...
Eden: Minion says “nana”.  (Laughs hysterically)

Swim Lessons
Swim lessons in winter means a few make-up classes!  I actually got to see Eloise and Eden swimming which was nice.  Eloise is doing very well and very close to moving to Level 3 (yay!).  She just needs to work on her backstroke.  Eden... well, he decided he did not want to swim.  *Sigh*

Me
I am secretly enjoying that I am starting to have a bigger section these days.  We celebrated the Fourth of July: Aussie-style at work (we had to with 4 Americans on the Head Office team) with Team America muffins for morning tea, burger joint lunch and Red, White and Blue cake for afternoon tea.
My star-spangled cake

We also had a work dinner at one of my favourite restaurants in Sydney, Aqua Dining.

Then there was a movie night (The Way Way Back) thanks to the Starwood Group.

Until next time…
