Happy New Year!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

It's the start of a New Year!  And we've been busy bees, as usual.

We spent the first day of the New Year at the beach... with the rest of Sydney.  We had a fun day, splashing around the water and frolicking in the sand.

We also had visitors!   We had lunch at Nick's Seafood before they cruised into the sunset (New Zealand).  MissE loved making a new friend, Auntie Chrissy.

We also had a chance to play at The Darling Quarter Children's Playground.

Eloise turns 4
Okay, so she already had her 2 blog posts but then I realised I didn't write anything about her Pre-school birthday celebration!  I made a pink and purple layered cake with an edible Disney Princess top.

I also didn't reveal her present: a trampoline!  Or as Eden calls it "Boom boom".

Dentist
Okay, I am very late with this one.  It is advised to see the dentist at 3.  Well, if I mentioned "dentist" at 3, MissE would cry.  Thank you Finding Nemo!  At 4, she understood that the dentist is not scary and she would get a new toothbrush.  The dentist was thrilled that she flosses daily!
Counting teeth and a new toothbrush pack!

Off to see Melanie!
Eloise got a haircut... and Eden tagged along for the ride.  Literally.  Eloise was so excited to see Melanie and tell her all about visiting Pau-Pau and Gung-Gung, going to Disneyland and having Gung-Gung cut her hair!
No, those are not real earrings!
Eden was desperate to get his hair cut too but Daddy said "no".  Maybe next time.

MissE Says the Darnedest Things
Toilet Buddy
Matthew: I want Eloise to come to the toilet with me.
MissE: I'm not big enough to wipe for you!

Daddy, will you marry me?
MissE has Disney Princess-itis.  It's a condition that often affects little girls.  They eat, breathe, sleep princesses.  MissE is obsessed with getting married.  She asked Daddy to marry her several times a day, and when he is unavailable, she wants to marry Eden.  She also often looks at our wedding photos and asks where she and Eden are.  I didn't realise that when she doesn't see herself in photos, she assumes she was still in my tummy.  Yes, so she was telling her teacher at school (and I don't know who else) that when her Mama and Daddy got married, she was in my tummy.   Umm, no.

Did She or Didn't She?
Me: Eloise, did you have a sleep at school today?
MissE: Yeah.  Sure.
Yes, that's how she answers our questions.  She says it just like that.  And well, we can't tell the difference if she is saying "yes, I did" or "yes, if that's what you want to believe".

Eden Celebrates a Half Birthday
This Big Guy turned 18 months!

Our cheeky little man in well, so cheeky.  Even his carers tell us so!  He continues to laugh, at almost everything.  And he's turned into a little chatterbox too.  He learns a new word daily, and is even starting to put words together like "Mama cuddle", "Wabi ide" (Sabi outside), "Bye-bye Daddy" or "Mama, gone" when I am at work.  He also says "Help please" or "Bubbles please" (he's very polite!) and his biggest phrase "Where are you?"  He is very good with his animal sounds too.  (Click below to check it out)

*Note: Please excuse his Dino sound.  He got a bit confused!

He is sleeping once a day, a nice long afternoon nap.  He refuses to go to bed unless Eloise is in bed so he doesn't miss out.  He also likes a book in bed to read.  And often, after wishing him "goodnight", we can hear him singing or talking to Spot.

His favourite toys are Mr.Potato Head and shape puzzles.

Doctor Visit x 2
Turning 4 and 18 months means immunisations all around!  We talked to Eloise about them and while leading up, she wasn't sure if she was going to brave, she was!  She made Eden go first (who didn't cry) and then it was her turn.  She watched the doctor administering them and didn't cry at all.  Needles shmeedles!

HEATWAVE!
It's been hot Down Under.  On Friday, 18 January, Sydney recorded the hottest day on record.  It was a whopping 45.8c (116F).  For me, it was Abu Simbel hot.  I kept having flashbacks of turning on the tap in the hotel and burning myself!  Luckily, I was working and actually had to have a sweater on due to the A/C.  Unluckily, when it was quittin' time, the train system was on meltdown due to melted wires (yes, that hot).  I ran in the heat to buy a bus ticket and to catch the next bus so that I could make it back to pre-school/ daycare for pick-up.
That's hot.

Rain, rain, go away!  For the record-breaking heat, we've also had rain.  One day it's too hot, the next it rains... all day.  It means one thing, and one thing only: a cold.  Blah.

Australia Day! Oi! Oi! Oi!
We spent Australia Day the only way you are supposed to, at the beach and with a BBQ!  We had a fun afternoon at Balmoral Beach.  Eden, the little fish, refused to leave the water.  After, we caught up with good friends (who we really need to see more!) for a BBQ dinner.
